Diference between hardwork and smartwork

I got this topic in the workshop of personality development. I never say, but it will great topic for my article. I try to write an article in English first time.

I heard one quotation in my 9'th standard.

"Success is the result of regular hard work."

In this quote hard work is preferred by creator. But you can see how and why you can hard work yourself?

Everyone can realize, "You can hard-work, but important thing is your direction."

I modify the above quotation,

"Success is the result of regular and proper hard work."

You should hard work, but also note you work smartly or not. You prefer both as according to the topic. But maintain the ratio between them.
